Obituary for Mark Franco

Mark Franco was born on October 13, 1938 in Newark, New Jersey, son of the late Juan Franco and Mary Patterson. He was the second of three children from that union. Mark attended Morton Street School in 1944. During his freshman year in high school in 1954, Mark attended MTIS in Bordentown, New Jersey. In 1955, Mark entered Rahway High School in Rahway where he played football, basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1957.

Mark enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958. He earned his stripes of a Sergeant, served on Strategic Air Command bases (SAC) and was deployed all over the world at a moment’s notice.

During this time, Mark married the former Mary McKivey and was blessed with two children, Quinta and Don.

He served his country for eight years before he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Following his discharge, Mark held positions at various companies, but the major source of income was from his auto-mechanic skills. He also tried out for a minor-league-baseball team prior to an extensive visit to Ecuador. This trip reacquainted him with his father’s heritage and culture.

Mark was an extremely generous family man to his children and extended family. He would leave home with $500.00 and return with $25.00 due to his charitable spirit.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #7 in Plainfield, New Jersey, American Legion Post #152 and The Veterans Administration both from Newark. He was adamant about veterans receiving their proper benefits.

Mark achieved the ultimate milestone in his life when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior nearly three years ago.

He was predeceased in death by his brother, Luke Gross of Detroit, Michigan.

Mark Franco leaves to celebrate his legacy, his daughter: Quinta Maria Franco; son: Reverend Don Marco Franco and wife, Minister Twyla Carson-Franco; four sisters: Angelica Garay, Yolanda Franco, Eugenia Bowers and Rose Hitchcock; brother: Melvin Hitchcock and wife, Texan Davis-Hitchcock; five grandchildren: Gabrielle Franco, Fredie Dotson, Alana Franco, Marques Franco and Andrew Franco; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
