Obituary for Gloria Louise Tisdale

Gloria Louise Tisdale was born on June 24, 1945 in Staten Island, New York to the late Daisy Bryant Whetstone and James Pearyer, Sr. She attended elementary school in Staten Island, New York and later moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey with her family. She graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth. She met and married Lawrence Tisdale from Jersey City, New Jersey and they had four children: Sharyn, Wanda, Laura and Lawrence.

Gloria worked as a Nursing Assistant at Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains, New Jersey and after 17 years of service she decided to retire. Previously, Gloria worked to support her family at Wakefern Corporation in Elizabeth, New Jersey as a Chef for eight years.

Gloria loved cooking and will make you feel like you are at home. As soon as you walk at her door step, she is ready to feed you because she was an excellent cook. She also liked playing cards with her friends. She enjoyed shopping for her home and herself and had very expensive taste. Everyone always said how beautiful she kept her home, kids and herself. People always said how you can eat off her floor.

Gloria loved fashion and was a seamstress at her second job. She was making money sewing for people and making them happy. She sewed all types of outfits as well as making coats. The outfits she made was unbelievable, you would think they came from a department store. My mother was very talented and was a hustler. I always thought she was in the wrong business. I watched her sew without a pattern and she would stay awake all night until she finished. My mother used to make some of our outfits and we always got compliments on how she kept her kids looking very nice. My mother took very good care of us. I remember when my mother would take us to Coney Island in Brooklyn NY, she also use to pack our lunch and sneak food into the movie theater (those was the good old days). We were very happy kids and she did an excellent job raising four kids on her own. My mother had a beautiful soul.

Gloria fought Heart Disease for many years and she was a fighter. On Sunday, February 10, 2019, surrounded by her loving family Gloria transitioned. She will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Tisdale; two sisters: Joan Simmons and Vangeline and three brothers: Lawrence Pearyer, Vincent Pearyer and Lavon Pearyer.

Gloria leaves to mourn her passing, her three children: Sharyn Townes (Bryant), Wanda Bryant and Laura Tisdale; four sisters: Judith Jackson, Jackie Lyles, Sheila Pearyer and Marie Lonoir; two brothers: Johnny Bryant and James Pearyer, Jr.; 10 grandchildren: Shanta, DeLeon, Tiana, Chantel, Haneefah, Sabria, Wesley, Atia, Kendra and Hassan; 14 great-grandchildren; one uncle, Walter Pearyer; best friends: Jet Hudson and Diane Lane; cousins, and a host of dear relatives and friends.
