Deacon Harvest F. Johnson, Sr. was born on December 6, 1937 in Lakeview, South Carolina, son of Harvest M. Johnson, Sr. and Allean S. Gerald Johnson (stepfather, Erskin Ford). He attended the Dillon County Public School system and graduated from high school in 1957 in Lakeview, South Carolina. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Theressa and they were blessed with seven children.
In 1965, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and became a devoted member of Mt. Zion F.B.H. Church in Elizabeth. Later, he relocated to Linden under the leadership of the late Pastor M. W. Steele. He served in many capacities locally, district, and conference levels. He was the Superintendent of Sunday school/district and Chairman of Deacon Board where he served 45 years. He also served on the Finance/Trustee Board under the Rev. Prentiss McRae.
Deacon Johnson was employed as a Machine Operator at Phelps Dodge Company in Elizabeth for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
On Wednesday, August 1, 2018, Deacon Harvest Johnson, Sr. departed this life and entered into eternal rest with his heavenly father.
He preceded by his loving wife, Church Mother Theressa Johnson; son, Jerome Johnson; father, Harvest Johnson, Sr.; mother, Allean Gerald Johnson; stepfather, Erskin Ford; brother/sister-in law Mr. and Ms. Joe Johnson; sister/brother in law, Mr. and Mrs. June Gilchrist; mother-in-law, Margaret Brown; brother-in-law, Edward Brown and son-in-law, Jerome Sims.
Deacon Harvest Johnson, Sr. leaves to cherish fond memories, his six children: Arnold Johnson, Annette McRae (Pastor Prentiss McRae), Harvest V. Johnson, Richard Johnson, Angela Sims, Jeanette Capers all of Woodbridge, NJ; 21 grandchildren: Prentiss Jr., Carnell, Brian, Janet, Toya, Tasha (Richard), Jackie (Carlos), Richard, Victoria, Amanda, Dexter, David Jr., Daniel, Ashley, Aliah, Ariell, Keith Jr., Cameron and Elon; 20 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Elder Thurmond Brown of LaGrand; 2 sisters-in-law, Liz and Nancy of Washington, DC; close friends: Liddy and Johnny Fields of Roselle, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster and godchildren he loved at Mt. Zion F.B.H. Church in Linden, NJ and friends.
