Obituary for Michael Andre McLeod

Michael Andre McLeod was born to the late Walter McLeod and Mary Hall McLeod at Rahway Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey on August 2, 1960.

He was educated in the Rahway Public School System and graduated from Rahway High School in 1979. Michael was an avid baseball player who received the Hall of Fame award and attended Montevello University in Alabama on a baseball scholarship. He earned an Associates Degree from Union County College in Cranford, New Jersey. Michael earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Business Administration Degree from the University of Phoenix. Michael earned his Series 7 Registration and was employed by Prudential Financial for over 20 years as a Retirement Specialist.

Michael was joined in holy matrimony to Lora R. Paden at Heard A.M.E. Church in Roselle, New Jersey on August 10, 1996.

Michael attended The Cathedral International in Perth Amboy, New Jersey under the leadership of Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr. There he served as an usher, assisted the missionaries and served as an adjutant to Pastor David Trawick. He returned to Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Rahway, New Jersey where he and Lora were formerly members and began attending the New Jersey Ministerial Institute at Princeton Seminary working towards ordination under the leadership of Rev. He went on to become the Supply Pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Pennington, New Jersey for a short period of time.

While at Ebenezer, he started, “The Sons of Allen Young Men’s Mentoring Ministry”, which provided tutoring, academic support and spiritual encouragement to young men. Michael also started a children’s Bible Study on Tuesday night. Whenever his car pulled up, the kids would yell “Rev. Michael is here!” Michael was a true servant of God and served wherever needed at Ebenezer and in the Rahway Community.

Michael loved his family and community. He loved spending time on the Gold Course with his brother-in-law, Winthrop McGriff and doing yard work and Do-It-Yourself projects with his brother-in-law, Rev. Paul Davis. He was also a member of the Rahway Branch NAACP.
