Obituary for Mary Ella Price Reid

Mrs. Mary Ella Price Reid was born on November 30, 1941 in Danville, Virginia to the late Mr. Clarence Price and Mrs. Mary Price. She was the youngest of five children. As a young girl, she was known as "Little Mary" by family and friends. During her formative years, Mary was educated in the Danville Public School system. She was a member of the Drum Bugle Cord and marched in many parades wearing uniforms made by her late aunt, Mabel Kernodle.

While living in Danville, Virginia, she was married to William George Adams, Jr. and with this union, they were blessed with one son, William George Adams, Jr. As time passed she relocated to Kenilworth, New Jersey, Mary worked at such companies as Witco and Binder Graphics. In later years, Mary met and married the late Robert Lee Reid, Sr. They resided in Roselle, New Jersey. From this union, she was further blessed with two more beautiful children: one son, Robert Lee Reid, Jr. and one daughter, Tia Ann Reid.

As a local homeowner, she started a career in the Roselle Public School system. She worked at Lincoln School and Leonard V. Moore School otherwise known as “Locust School.” She adored working with children especially those who were considered challenging. She was known by educators as the "miracle worker" because she could reach students in ways others could not. She was a caregiver to her mother in her home for many years. She also cared for the children of family members and friends, many of whom are present today. She became a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. She was known for hosting many family members and friends in her home.

Together with her late husband Robert, they became entrepreneurs and opened up the iconic, "Reid's Candy Store" in Roselle, New Jersey. She worked in the store for many years. With her ambition and love for children, she continued her works of service by becoming a class parent and active member of the Parent Teacher Association at Saint Joseph's the Carpenter School in Roselle where her daughter attended. As her children grew older, Mary was employed by Schering Plough in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Upon many years of service, she received a special recommendation and award for her exemplary job well done.

She loved to travel but never forgot where she came from. She was known for making her yearly trips to Danville, Virginia. She emphasized the importance of family and sharing her roots to her children. She was a fun loving, daring and bold person who would often be found taking pictures with the pilot of an airplane, riding rollercoasters or playing on the train tracks with her cousin Barbra as a child. Mary always looked forward to a visit from her sister Doris, a trip to see her brother Clarence or spending time with her sister Gladys. She was a strong and independent person. She was always complimented by her unique and beautiful eyes. On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, the Lord called her home. Her smile was like a ray of sunshine and her thoughtfulness will always be remembered.

Mary was predeceased by her two older siblings, Doris Shelton and Charlie Moses Price.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, her two loving sons: William Adams, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Robert Reid, Jr. of NJ; one daughter, Tia Reid of NJ; one sister, Gladys Oliver of NJ; one brother, Clarence Price of VA; two grandsons: William George Adams III of Las Vegas, NV and Kennedy Le Grand Adams III of NJ; two granddaughters: Ashley Toni Adams of NJ and Tyler Gail Adams of Las Vegas, NV; two great-grandchildren: Skylar and Dominique; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
