Obituary for Lavon High

“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” ~ Exodus 33:14

Lavon High was born on the fifteenth of December in 1965 in Jamaica, New York to Mary Baker and Thomas High. She was a Linden High School Alumni who excelled in Track and Field. She was a faithful follower of Christ and a passionate praise dancer.

She was a dedicated worker at Willis Towers Watson of New York as a Client Service Specialist/Insurance Administrator for 14 years. Prior to that, she was a Senior Administrative Assistant at Mack-Cali Realty for 6 years.

In 2015, Lavon was diagnosed with an aggressive rare form of cancer. However, her strength and determination created a path for her to accomplish her dreams of finishing college where she earned an Associate’s degree in Legal Studies this past May of 2018. She started her own business, became an investor, owned her own home/rental property and left a legacy for her children and grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and driven to succeed in anything she put her mind to do. She never wavered.

On Thursday, September 13, 2018, Lavon High passed away at the Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice Center in Voorhees, New Jersey at the age of fifty-two. A place where the doctors, nurses and aides treated for her with such love and care, they constantly acknowledged her strength, warm heart, love and pride for her children as well as her sense of humor.

Lavon High leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Mary Baker; father, Thomas High; three children from the oldest: her artistic son, Daryl Dixon, Jr. and wife, Danielle, her Army Strong daughter, Anete High and ambitious baby girl, Porsche High; two beautiful sisters, Stephanie and Annette High; four gorgeous grandchildren: Xavier, Faith, Ian and Hannah; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you…”~ I Peter 5:10, ESV
