Obituary for James "Jimmy" Lewis, Jr.

James Lewis, Jr. "Jimmy" was born on this day of May 30, 1929 in Harlem, New York, son of the late James Lewis, Sr. and Ethel Lewis. James was educated in the New York Public School system. He was a Veteran of the United States Army where he obtained an Honorable Discharge in 1947.

"Jimmy,” as he was affectionately called by family, was employed at United Paint for 20 years. He retired from the Linden Board of Education after 30 years of service. In his spare time, he was the Bartender at Smitty's Tavern in Linden, New Jersey.

Jimmy was a member of the Gentleman's Riders Organization in the 1960's and 1970's. He enjoyed riding his Kawasaki Motorcycle.

A STELLAR GENTLEMAN AND WISE, he had a strong passion for Classical Jazz in the Era of its time. Jimmy "LOVED" to dance. He was a collector of Stacy Adams Shoes and LOVED to be WELL DRESSED AT ALL TIMES.

On Saturday, January 5, 2019, James "Jimmy" Lewis, Jr. departed this life at the age of eighty-nine.

He was predeceased by his son: James Derrick Lewis; brother: Fitzgerald Roberts; and sister, Ruth Welters.

James Lewis, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Catherine Lewis; two daughters: Denise Taylor of Roselle, NJ and Cheryl Davis (Luther) of Rahway, NJ; stepson, Dr. Clinton Sims of Groveland, Florida; stepdaughter, Vernell Thomas of Clermont, Florida; 7 grandchildren: Jadwa Haqq, Cherie Jones, David Jones, Lamar Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Tiara Thomas and Aja Sims; 8 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; loving nephew: Gerald Roberts; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
