Obituary for Rosa Lee Champagne

Mrs. Rosa Lee Champagne, was affectionately called "FAT-MOMMA," transitioned to her heavenly rest on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:57 am in Rahway, New Jersey.  She was born on January 15, 1929 to the parents of the late Jack Davis and Ada Dixon Davis.

She joined in holy matrimony to the late Willie James Champagne and with this union came nine beautiful children. She established herself as the Matriarch of the Champagne family.

Rosa Lee worked as a Domestic Engineer for many decades for a private family located in South Carolina. She also worked as a Cook for T & L Moore Diner located in Bishopville, South Carolina.
She was a member of the St. Marks Baptist Church in South Carolina, until her recent move to Rahway, New Jersey. She joined the White Rock Baptist Church in Linden where she attended regularly.

Rosa Lee was a praying Mother and Grandmother who prayed often for her children, grandchildren and the rest of the family.  You could walk by Rosa Lee's bedroom at any given time and hear her whispering sweet prayers unto God.

She loved to cook; it was her passion. When her children came home to visit, Rosa Lee would be in the kitchen preparing the meals for their arrival. She cooked not only for them but also for friends or anyone who just happened to stop by her home.  She would feed anybody and everybody her last meal.

Rosa Lee was a mother to many. It did not matter your race or religion, many that knew her called her mom.  She was a protector of her children and grandchildren who called her "Fat-Momma."  She was a nurturing mother who shared her love.  If you were hungry, she fed you! If you were homeless, she sheltered you.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Champagne; two brothers: Willie Rob Davis and Luther Davis; sister, Laura Lebooth; and son-in-law, Saul Frazier.

Rosa Lee Champagne leaves to cherish her memory: six daughters:  Ada Smith (Emmett) of Linden, NJ, Rosa Atkins (Willie) of Oxon Hill, MD, Bertie Champagne of Rahway, NJ, Eartha Champagne of Laurel, MD, Delores McCall (Phillip) of Rahway, NJ, Louise Wiggins (John) of Roselle, NJ; three sons: Willie Champagne, Jr. (Angela) of Bishopville, SC,  Roland Champagne of Linden, NJ, and Bernell Champagne (Catherine) of Sayreville, NJ; brother, Roland Davis (Gloria); sister, Susie Mae Shaw; 33 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
