Obituary for Robert H. Colvin

Robert H. Colvin was born on October 2, 1935 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, son of the late James Colvin and Leola Thatcher Colvin. He was educated in Bordentown Manuel Training School in Bordentown, New Jersey. He served in the United States Marines for three years during the Korean War. He lived in Roselle, New Jersey for approximately fifty years.

Robert worked as an Iron Worker for twenty-two years.

For many years, he was a member of a very close-knit vocal group. The group performed popular songs in many venues, including the Apollo Theater. Playing the harmonica was one of Robert's musical talents as well. He was nicknamed, "Sound Track."

Robert enjoyed sitting on his front porch talking to his neighbors, friends and other people walking by who would stop and chat for a while. He always loved a conversation and never hesitated in starting one. Robert was fondly called by the neighborhood, "The Mayor of Roselle."

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately remembered "two words, he would say to them when they dressed up for a holiday or any special occasion, which was "Hot Dog." They loved it! All of his grandchildren really loved their "Pop-Pop," the name they affectionately called him.

Robert and his wife Mary loved traveling and took numerous road trips, many wonderful cruises and enjoyed them all immensely.

Robert leaves to cherish precious memories, his wife, Mary Colvin; daughters: Theresa Smith, Barbara Ann Colvin and Lisa Colvin; brothers: David Colvin and wife, Joan and Joseph Colvin and wife, Alexandria; sister: Jemmie Chapman and husband, Louis; preciously adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Elease Johnson and Myra Johnson; and a significant host of dear relatives and friends.
