Obituary for Joan Jeanette Hayes

Joan Jeanette Hayes was born in the month of October on the 6th day in the year of 1936. Joan had hard-working, loving parents, the late Arthur Herman and Millie Edna Herman. In her parents union, she enjoyed the rearing of her two sisters, Michele and Patricia.

Joan began her public education in Roselle at Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Abraham Clark High School in June 1954. She showed a natural talent for modeling right out of high school, but the world of modeling didn’t bring the success she had hoped for.

She landed her first job at Hyatt Roller Bearings in Clark, New Jersey as an Inspector and worked there for 27 years until the company closed. Along with friends and coworkers, she worked at General Motors in Linden as an Inspector for three years. She retired in 1994 from the workforce after 30 years of service.

During the same time, Joan met and eventually married Roland H. Hayes and was blessed with one daughter, Melinda G. Hayes. She became a loving grandmother and great-grandmother with the greatest of grace, love and support to Nuirka-Maritza, Imari, Dynasty and Diego.

Joan enjoyed attending Heard A.M.E Church with her mother, which she became spirit-filled every time she went to service.

She enjoyed cooking great meals for her elaborate parties for her family and friends. Joan joined a bowling league at Linden Lanes, along with friends from work where they actually became competitive. She traveled in her early adult years and made certain places her second home. Joan had a beautiful zeal for life. She loved her family unconditionally and cherished her friends without any conditions.

Joan Jeanette Hayes closed her eyes in the twilight hours of Sunday morning, March 4, 2018. After battling a barrage of illnesses that tested her will to survive, she fought mightily until the end.

She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia G. Wilkins; niece, Stacey Cooper and brother-in-law, Derrick Cooper, Sr.

Joan leaves to cherish precious memories, her daughter, Melinda G. Hayes (Mark) of Linden, New Jersey; sister, Michelle D. Cooper; 2 granddaughters, Nuirka-Maritza Easterling and Imari I. Frieson; 2 great-grandchildren: Dynasty H. Thompson and Diego M. Thompson; nieces, nephews, and a host of dear relatives and friends.

Joan has left this world only, with the slightest of a heavy heart. She has closed her eyes for the last time here with us, with the belief and promise by our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, that she will see us all again.
