Obituary for Eugene Brown, Jr.

Eugene Brown, Jr. “Brownie” was born on April 22, 1971 in Belleville, New Jersey, son of Eugene Brown, Sr. and the late Yvonne Ami Brown. He peacefully departed of his life on Thursday, October 12, 2017. “Diddle,” as he was affectionately known by his family, was raised in Roselle, New Jersey along with his sister, LaTasha Denise Brown.

“Coach” as he was called by many, received his education from Roselle Public School system and graduated from Abraham Clark High School in 1990. He continued his education at Massachusetts Bay Community College in Wellesley, Massachusetts where he played basketball. Later, he transferred to Kean University in Union where he also played on the basketball team.

In 1996, Eugene returned to the Roselle Public School system where he dedicated twenty-one years of his professional career as an educator, disciplinarian, role model and mentor to the student population as well as a father figure to many students. “Brownie” also coached for the Football, Basketball and Baseball teams as well as a Referee for teams outside of Roselle. “Brownie” loved sports and was one of the best athletes that hailed from Roselle. He held the title of All State in basketball and led the Roselle Rams Football team to the school’s only state championship in 1989.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roselle. On October 1, 2017 during his hospital stay, Eugene rededicated his life to the Lord in the presence of his sister, niece and friend. He partook in Holy Communion, professed his knowledge of GOD and said that he knew if anything happened, he was going to Heaven.

When Coach had spare time, he would attend his godchildren, grandson Nashaun, and granddaughter Tiana’s athletic and special events. He was very proud of each of them and was always excited to support them. Coach also was a Big Brother mentor and would often show his mentees what life was all about by bringing them to his family events.

Brownie was popular, loved and respected by all who knew him.

Eugene leaves to cherish fond memories, his dedicated father, Eugene Brown, Sr.; sister, LaTasha Denise Brown; niece, Ami’yannah Denise Davis; uncle, Oscar Brown (Geraldine), 2 aunts: Janet and Valerie Brown; special friend, Dannettee and daughter, Brianna; and a host of cousins and godchildren.
