Obituary for Donald Jerome Carter

Donald Jerome Carter was born on June 16, 1964 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, son of the late Jeannie Lee Carter. He was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he was called home on Saturday, August 5, 2017. He attended Grove Cleveland Middle School and graduated from Elizabeth High School, Class of 1982.

“Dusty”, as he was affectionately called by his friends and co-workers, was a devoted and loyal employee at Performance Food Group in Elizabeth, New Jersey for 15 years.

Donald truly loved and cherished his family. His daily routine consisted of visiting his daughter and siblings. Donald’s daughter Robyn was his true pride and joy. He took pride in being an uncle and was known to play pranks on his nieces and nephews. He sometimes left them with “wedgies” as a reminder not to be a hard head but listen to him next time. Although a playful uncle, he made sure to share his personal experiences and knowledge about the world. Teaching and reminding each of them to use caution when staying outside and not to hang out and get caught up in the street life. Donald was always known for saying, “Hey, take this with you” always joking around and telling stories.

Donald was the youngest brother, which he used to his advantage, rather than choosing a favorite sister. He compromised and was close and stole the attention from all four of them. They were all his running partners in life and he enjoyed spending time with each of them equally during the week.

Donald was a family-oriented man, who also enjoyed a variety of sports, and loved going to baseball games in his spare time at Brophy field. He also enjoyed playing cards and most of all attending family celebrations such as birthday parties and cookouts. He enjoyed them so much because he was the honorary cook for all the family cookouts. He had a reputation for always burning “a good piece of meat.” No one got a piece of meat unless it burnt on one side!
His extended family includes the most of the city of Elizabeth. He was known all over the area and was adopted by most of the older generation in the senior building. He was extremely helpful, and loved running errands back and forth for those who couldn’t go to the store for themselves. “We will miss his smile and loving ways.”

Donald was predeceased by his brother, Rev. Ronald Carter, baby sister, Sharon M. Carter and brother-in-law, Mark Gordon. Donald J. Carter affectionately known as “Dusty”, leaves to cherish and honor his legacy, his daughter, Robyn Eanes, his second heartbeat, greatest accomplishment and best friend; 2 brothers: Lawrence Carter (Pam) of London, UK and Robert Carter (Aletheia) of Roselle, NJ; 4 sisters: Jacqueline Carter, Ruth Carter (Mahmoud), Deborah Carter (Larry) and Nanci Carter (Mark) all of Elizabeth, NJ; 12 nieces, 11 nephews, 10 great-nieces, 11 great-nephews; 2 adopted nephews: Aaron Durham and David Durham both of Elizabeth, NJ; four sidekicks: Jeffrey, Reggie, Foley, and Greg; and a host of extended family and friends of Elizabeth, NJ.
